Pre-Opening Manual
The Pre-Opening Manual is a
comprehensive resource guideline for a franchised business start up
and a wealth of how –to and reference material. The goal in creating
this Manual is to enable your franchisee to work as autonomously as
possible while setting up his business structure, relying on you,
the franchisor for important guidance when necessary. It is designed
to be completed by the franchisee prior to attending their training
session with you, the Franchisor.
This Manual will assist your Franchisee by providing business
resources, making accessible the various web site URLs, phone
numbers and addresses and more. Franchisees will be confident and
knowledgeable, and better prepared to make informed decisions,
resulting in a good staff, satisfied customers and a busy location.
By beginning your franchisee/franchisor relationship, in a
respectful manor, will help to develop a good long-term working
bond.
A great franchise unit does not happen by accident. The Franchisee
must be able to make it happen. No matter whether it is a small
business location; an owner/operator with or without employee's); or
a multi-unit Franchisee with teams of staff members, the rules of
good business are the same.
Manual Writing FAQ’s
How does the writing system work?
First, a Manual Writing Technician (MWT)
will be assigned to the Franchisor (the Client) to oversee their
project. The most current version of the manual will be provided as
the client begins to work on it, ensuring the client receives the
latest edition available. (The Manuals are in a perpetual process of
updating and revision for the most current information possible.)
The MWT will lead you through every aspect of the information
provided, as well as, guiding you through the placement of
information you have already prepared into the manual format. Tips
and suggestions regarding the Franchisor’s responsibilities and what
they can anticipate as a franchisor are discussed along the way, as
each topic is covered and discussed in the manuals.
We try to make the writing process as easy and enjoyable as
possible. All of our Writing Technicians are highly trained,
understanding and experienced in the manual writing procedure.
How long will it take?
The drum-roll question that everyone asks: “How long will it take to
write my manuals?” The answer: “It depends on how much quality time
is spent each week on the project.” Most Franchisors are busy
running their operations and developing their franchise
simultaneously. Therefore, the answer varies by client and is
controlled by the client, anywhere from a few months to a year or on
occasion, more. Other variables include, how much information has
already been prepared, if a writer has been hired, and how quickly
needed information can be produced by the client. FranDocs will work
at your pace within reason.
What information is included in the Pre-Opening Manual?
The Pre-Opening Manual contains a plethora of beginning business
information. From the introduction of your company, organizational
chart, and a timeline to basics such as; how to obtain EIN numbers,
set up a corporation, find a location, meeting licensing and code
requirements (if applicable), employee licensure, software and
computer requirements.
Through lists of equipment, large and
small, inventories and more satisfy the needs of the FDD and
Franchise Agreements. Advertising topics from an introduction of
your basic PR program, no matter how simple or elaborate, to the
Grand Opening Process is covered in detail. A build-out and/or
remodeling guide ensures that your franchisee presents themselves
just as you have done in your area.
This material is covered in
approximately 235-245 pages. As a bonus, extensive glossaries are
included, enabling your franchisee to untangle the language that can
be foreign to them, such as franchising, advertising, insurance or
more. The glossaries total an additional 300 pages.
